The government of El Salvador will sign an agreement with Amazon Web Services (AWS) to install the company’s first cloud learning center in the country and in Latin America.

According to La Prensa Grafica (LPG), this center would train and certify more than 80,000 Salvadorans in cloud computing services during its first phase. Moreover, the trainings will come at no cost.

The programs offered will include software services and infrastructure, artificial intelligence and robotics, and cloud computing, according to LPG.

Considering the country has traditionally had a low level of economic growth, the creation of this center will benefit the economy. Amazon plans to hire at least 5,000 El Salvadorans in their computing services in Latin America, according to El Diario Libre

The opening of this center is another promise kept by President Nayib Bukele. According to the Salvadoran Secretary for Innovation, Vladimir Handal, this program will focus on granting opportunities to the Salvadoran youth by providing them with the necessary skills to become competitive skilled workers and contribute to the country’s economy.

Furthermore, the center will work hand in hand with the Salvadoran government to implement a presidential initiative titled “Mi Nueva Escuela,” which aims to utilize more technology in the classrooms of Salvadoran schools.   This is in addition to reforming the school curriculum to focus more on STEM.

While the agreement is set to be signed in December, both El Salvadorans and their government are already anticipating this opportunity.
