It may seem like a laughable topic at first, but declining sturgeon populations in the Caspian Sea is a huge economic threat. As caviar is a product of the sturgeon and around 80% of all sturgeon live in the Caspian Sea, caviar-exporting countries are getting nervous. Kazakhstan, for example, is the number one exporter of caviar and have in the past have made huge efforts to protect the Sea from pollution. Alas, recent studies have shown that pollution is the main problem for these sturgeon, with pollutants from the oil and energy industry serving as the source. Source:  AzerNews
