The W.H.O initiated “an Ebola response” against cases of Lassa fever in Benin last fall, a virus common in West Africa. Following the Ebola epidemic, international preparedness helped to end the Lassa outbreak before the virus could spread; international organizations created isolation centers and implemented protective equipment, a sign that the West Africa region could be more prepared for future epidemics.
