Colombia-Feb 7
FARC today announced its intention to transform into a political movement after been labeled as an armed group for five decades. In a statement made in Havana, FARC spokesman Seuxis Paucias Hernandez declared that the group “will compromise in order to prevent the reoccurrence of the armed confrontation.” The group also wishes to push for reform in Colombia, particularly with regards to the armed forces, and introduce measures that it deems necessary for the “demilitarization” of Colombian society. The government and FARC agreed in 2013 to set special conditions under which former militant movements could participate in the political process as political parties. Source: Semana
