E. Europe - Oct 28
Eastern Europe has mixed reviews on and responses to Russian gas. Baltic states like Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania are seeking to reduce their dependency by building costly LNG facilities for Norwegian and Qatari gas. On the other hand, Southeastern Europe sees a benefit in the construction of the South Stream pipeline which will take the often difficult Ukraine out of the energy equation for the region. The region is also teaming up with its western counterpart to reduce energy consumption and emissions, much to the dismay of the coal-rich nation of Poland. Source: The New York Times
