The United States deported Carlos Eugenio Vides Casanova, a former defense minister of El Salvador, who is accused of torture and murder during the country’s civil war. The deportation proceedings began at the request of human rights groups advocated for the ex-minister to face justice in El Salvador. The U.S. is also looking to extradite another Salvadoran military official to Spain, who has been indicted in the murder of five Spanish Jesuit priests and other members of their household.
