Guatemala - Feb 25
Alfonso Portillo, a former President of Guatemala from 2000-2004, was just released from a U.S. prison in Colorado, after serving a yearlong sentence for embezzlement charges. He was accused of accepting bribes and attempting to launder 2.5 million U.S. dollars through U.S. banks. He received this money from Taiwan, in exchange for Guatemala recognizing Taiwan as a country. He will return to Guatemala where he is still welcomed by many. Source: BBC News
