Iran - Oct 28
A rise in executions have led to increasing condemnations of the human rights situation within Iran. At least 852 individuals were reportedly executed between July 2013 and June 2014, representing an alarming increase above the already frequent use of capital punishment for offenses varying from adultery, drug and alcohol use, illicit political and economic activity, and more. A recent execution of a woman who was hanged for killing a man she had accused of sexually abusing her particularly shocked the international community and the U.N. which raised the issue with the Iranian government but received no response.
