Italy, EU - Nov 25

In his first visit for 26 years in front of a full-house European Parliament, Pope Francis delivered a highly critical assessment of the EU. The Pope focused his remarks on four areas of concern: a pervasive sense that the Union lacks energy and transparency, the Union’s legislations insensitivity to individuals, a political debate excessively centered on economic rather than social policies, and an unresolved framework to regulate and monitor migration flows. On this last point, the Pope urged the EU to be fair, courageous and supportive of individual countries internal conflicts.
