Low salaries for Kyrgyzstan teachers are causing shortages that affect the nation’s education quality. Because many teachers are unable to support themselves on their current wage, young teachers are choosing to leave the profession for better paying, unskilled jobs. At the same time, older teachers are retiring and not being replaced, creating a gap in the number of educators. Literacy remains a problem in Kyrgyzstan; however, the government’s financial budget is unable to support an increase in the wage. Source: EurasiaNet
