Rwanda - Oct 24
The recent documentary “The Untold Story” created by the BBC investigating the Rwandan genocide has been criticized heavily in Rwanda. The film questions the official accounts of the 1994 genocide, including the ethnicity of those who were murdered and the identity of those behind the shooting of the late President Juvenal Habyarimana’s plane. The Rwandan government has accused the BBC of “’denial of the genocide against the Tutsi’” and of disrespecting those who were killed. As a result, a resolution has been approved by both houses of Rwanda’s parliament, which outlaws the BBC in Rwanda and seeks to bring charges of genocide denial against the film makers, a punishable crime in Rwanda.
