South Sudan - Sept 30
The United States has pledged an additional $83 million in emergency assistance for South Sudan, bringing the total to more than $720 million in the fiscal year 2014. The funds will be used to assist the South Sudanese living as refugees in neighboring countries, as well as internally displaced persons. There have been over 450,000 refugees since December 2013 and an additional 200,000 South Sudanese are expected to flee by the end of the year. U.S. Assistant Secretary of State Anne Richard warned that "without progress on political negotiations, the end of the current rainy season is likely to bring a new, intensified chapter of fighting and displacement."
