Spain - Feb 24
The police force in Catalonia, Spain – the Mossos d’Esquadra – has announced that it will begin using stun guns this year. Authorities will take instructional courses prior to using the weapons, and police unions advocate the use of electroshock weapons because they enable authorities to incapacitate violent subjects without using physical force. The plan is not without criticism, however. A man was killed by a stun gun in Barcelona in October 2013, and the advocacy group Stop Taser has tried to prevent the distribution of stun guns in Spain.
