Syria - Oct 10
Up to 700 people, mainly elderly, are still trapped in Kobane, a Syrian Kurdish town on the border of Turkey. Staffan de Mistura, the UN special envoy to Syria, is appealing to Turkish authorities, who have thus far denied intervention due to its reluctance to arm the Kurdish forces fighting the IS militants because of their long-standing civil war with their Kurdish minority, to at least allow volunteers to enter the town. The Syrian civil war may spill over into countries like Jordan, Lebanon and Turkey that border it. Source: BBC
