The head of the Venice commission requested that the Ukrainian government puts on hold its Lustration laws until their modification. President Poroshenko of Ukraine has formally stated that the Lustration law, passed to purge the Ukrainian government of officials with ties or history in Communist governments, a major demand of Maidan protestors cannot be canceled or put on hold – stating that with the help of the Venice commission the law needs to be furthered in accordance with international standards and the realms of legality.
