Burkina Faso - Oct 31
Burkina Faso’s President Blaise Compaoré announced his resignation following violent protests at his attempt to extend his 27-year rule. A statement was issued saying that the presidency was now vacant, and urged elections within 90 days. For the present, military chief Gen Honore Traore announced that he has taken over as head of state. During his time as president, Compaoré was accused of aiding rebellions in West Africa as well as maintaining an autocratic regime, and with his resignation, major change could be in store for the future of the region.
