Burundi - Feb 18

A Burundian radio journalist was released from jail after his bail was paid earlier this week. The journalist, Bob Rugurika, was detained by Burundian authorities after Rugurika refused to reveal the identity of a guest on his radio show who admitted he was involved in the murder of three Italian nuns near the capital, Bajumbura. Rugurika's case has drawn much international attention paid to this case, with many feeling that the Burundian government is infringing upon the rights of the press; such feelings resulted in the European parliament threatening to suspend a five-year aid program worth 432 euros if the government of Burundi did not release Rugurika.
