On October 31st, the spokesman for the Chinese Foreign Ministry, Hong Lei, announced that the President of China Xi Jinping would welcome a chance to meet with the President of the United States Barack Obama next month. He was specifically referring to a possible meeting on the sidelines of the 22nd APEC economic leaders meeting in Beijing in November. More importantly, he stated that the topic would focus on potential ways China could cooperate with the U.S. in fighting terrorism. The spokesman further emphasized how a possible meeting would deepen ties between the two nations on other fronts as well, including trade, climate change and other strategic cooperation.
