Finland, Russia - Dec 9
Finland is the latest in a series of countries to recently agree to contract with Russian firms for the construction of nuclear reactors. The measure to allow for the construction of a nuclear reactor costing approximately €5 billion was passed with strong support by the Finnish legislature with the Russian firm Rosatom directing and providing significant financing for the project. Although, many are concerned that Russia is seeking to expand its sphere of influence through these projects, as Rosatom and other firms have signed other construction and service contracts in the last six months with Turkey, Hungary, India and Iran.
