Greece - Feb 6

Since its victory a few weeks ago, the radical left-wing Syriza party, led by Alexis Tsipras, has begun to strengthen its hold over the Greek parliament.  On Friday, Depputy Zoe Konstantopolou, a lawyer representing the Syriza party, was elected to be speaker of the parliament.  She is the youngest person and second woman in nearly 200 years to hold the position.  Konstantopolou received 235 votes out of 300 MPs.
