Peru-Feb 7

Prime Minister Ana Jara’s summit of Peruvian political parties suffered a major blow this Saturday when former President Alejandro Toledo announced that he would not be present. His party, Peru Posible¸ will still be attending. Toledo joins former President Alan Garcia in his absence after the latter’s party, Apra expressed displeasure at the prospect of a political summit. Although Jara has faced issues of politicians refusing to cooperate with the government until changes are made to the cabinet, the majority of the summit’s other invitees are expected to attend. The talks are supported by current President Ollanta Humala, who hopes they will provide an opportunity for a more “frank” dialogue. Source: El Comercio
