Shia Fighters Retake Iraqi Town from ISIS The Iraqi providence of Diyala has been taken back from the Islamic State of Iraq and al-Sham (ISIS) by the Badr Brigade, a group of Iraqi Shia fighters, and the Iraqi government’s soldiers. Diyala is to the north of Baghdad in eastern Iraq and can serve as a stepping-stone for a broader offensive to reclaim territory in the North held by ISIS. Kurds and other tribes in Iraq are also fighting ISIS.
