Israel - Oct 28

Jordan, which holds a rotating seat on the Security Council, has called for an emergency session to discuss the Israeli government’s recent announcement of plans to build new homes in Jerusalem and the West Bank. The US and EU also critiqued the plan to build 1,060 housing units in Jerusalem. Meanwhile, tensions over the Temple Mount are building in Jerusalem, as Netanyahu ordered 1,000 Border Guards to quell ongoing Arab rioting. Jerusalem’s Mayor Nir Barkat recently visited Judaism’s holiest site, which sparked the outrage of the Jordanian Wakf Museum religion trust, which oversees the Al Aqsa Mosque. Both Jews and Muslims view the Temple Mount/Al Aqsa Mosque region to be of the utmost importance. While Israel gave Jordan assurances pertaining to the Al-Aqsa mosque following the 1967 war when it annexed Jerusalem, numerous politicians within Israel have been clamoring for the Jewish right to pray at the site.
