Maldives - March 17

Defense Ministry Coordinator Mohamed Mushrif, who served under former President Mohammed Waheed Hassan, has resigned, protesting the government’s “brutality” and citing fear of remaining in his post. In a letter addressed to the President  shared on social media, Mushrif stated that the prosecution of former President Mohamed Nasheed and former Defense Minister Mohamed Nazim was politically motivated. Ibrahim Luthfy, human rights envoy of Maldives to the United Nations, has also resigned citing similar reasons.
