Mali - Feb 10

Evidence suggests that poachers in northern Mali are targeting a rare population of elephants, a trend that has been previously linked to rebel groups. Authorities believe that 19 Gourma elephants have been killed in the last month alone and that the poaching could be linked to smuggling rings in the region, a serious concern since the region has previously been plagued by conflict and the emergence of jihadi groups.
