Chile - Feb 10
The Transantiago public transportation turned 8 years old this week. A recent study estimates that every year the operator lose $415 million in revenue due to passengers evading fees, more than 50% of the total $750 million annual subsidy from the Chilean government. In order to reduce losses from passenger evasion, the city of Santiago is opening a brand-new network of pay stations and allowing purchases via mobile phone.
