Mauritania - Jan 15

Amnesty International has condemned the politically-motivated imprisonment of three anti-slavery activists, as well as their immediate release. One of the activists is Ould Dah Ould Abeid: opposition leader, president of the Initiative for the Resurgence of the Abolitionist Movement (IRA), runner-up in the last presidential election and winner of the 2013 UN Human Rights Prize. The police stopped the IRA while peaceful demonstrating on account of an absence of authorized documentation - despite the fact that they were requested by the group - and have been detained without family visits since November 15th.
