Boko Haram militants attacked Maiduguri, the major city in northeast Nigeria, on Sunday in an assault that has been called the group’s most audacious attack on the city to date. The insurgency began on late Saturday with loud explosions throughout the urban area and continued until local forces could contain the attack. It is believed that hundreds were killed.
