The pace of deflation in the Eurozone accelerated this month, rising from 0.2% in December to 0.6% in January. The only previous time that the Eurozone has experienced this level of deflation was in July 2009, following the global financial crisis. The European Central Bank began quantitative easing last week as a first step in countering this economic downturn.
