Nigeria - Oct 28
The Nigeria Labor Movement is outraged by the Senate's decision to remove the minimum wage from the Executive legislative list to the Concurrent list - which would empower states and individual employers to decide on and set their own minimum wage without recourse to the national minimum wage. The Nigeria Labor Congress (NLC) was shocked at the Senate's decision, in spite of the fact that at least 90% of the world's countries have minimum wage laws in effect. They stated: "the congress believes the removal is a deliberate and calculated effort to move us from the working poor to the slave-poor." Similarly, the Trade Union Congress (TUC) deemed the Senate's actions unacceptable and condemnable. If carried out, this would indeed be a step backwards for Nigeria's democracy. Source: All Africa
