184 candidates have decided to participate in Pakistan's upcoming national Senate elections. 52 seats in Pakistan's Upper House are up for occupancy, with the fiercest competition for seats representing the Federally Administered Tribal Areas, which constitute Pakistan's western border with Afghanistan. This year's elections will be a measure of Pakistani national sentiment after two opposition parties blockaded Islamabad and unsuccessfully demanded the Prime Minister's resignation last summer .
