Yemen - Feb 26

President Hadi is continuing his attempt to gain control over Yemen from the rebel Houthis. After escaping or being released from house arrest earlier this week, he has set up a Southern port city, Aden, as an alternative to the capital Sana where the Houthi forces are. Factions are increasingly taking sides, along with international forces – the Iranians are backing the Shia Houthi forces, whereas Saudi Arabia is providing support to Hadi’s allies. The turmoil in the country is also opening a space for Al Qaeda to regain territory, with implications for the entire Middle East. Source: The New York Times
