Egypt - Feb 22

Ahmed Ezz, a prominent steel businessman and former member of the Egyptian Parliament, was disqualified from running for Parliament again in Egypt.  Ezz previously had significant power due to his wealth and near monopolistic control of the steel industry under former President Mubarak. However, he was punished severely during the Arab spring protests, and was sentenced to 30 years in jail, but was allowed by the current el-Sisi government to leave on bail. The barring of him from political power is a step for the current el-Sisi government, who is struggling with public opinion. Source: The New York Times
