Syria - Feb 24
The Islamic State has taken approximately 90 Assyrian Christians from northeast Syria, near the borders with Turkey and Iraq. Christians are around 10% of the Syrian population, and are concentrated in the northeast Hassakeh region. The Islamic State has reportedly offered Christians a choice between converting to Islam, paying a fee or risking death. The abductions come when Kurdish and other US-backed forces are trying to retake the region. They have successfully reclaimed around 30 villages. Source: BBC News
