President Abdulla Yameen has made creative arts optional in the school curriculum after pressure from religious and political conservatives. Concerns were made identifying the 'anti-Islamic' aspects of the new curriculum, with NGO Jamiyyathul Salaf issuing a press statement last month describing compulsory arts education as an "insult to Islam." The Islamic ministry will continue to strengthening Islamic education by focusing on schools and the youth population. Source: Minivan News
