Senegal - Sept 29
There is an ongoing trend in Senegal of young men dropping out of school in order to become wrestlers. In Senegal, 54% of the country is below the poverty line and some see leaving school and vocational training for a life surrounding wrestling as a way to escape poverty. Wrestling matches have become large social events, with politicians, businessmen and government ministers going to matches. Wrestling careers, successful or otherwise, have small lifespans and leave men without an education in basic skills such as reading and writing and thus unprepared for future occupation.
