Spain - Dec 9

Following a series of protests by taxi associations a judge has ordered Uber – a taxi booking service – to cease operations. The judge accused the company of unfair competition and claimed the drivers didn’t have official authorization for their line of work. Uber does not own cars or employs its drivers, but rather connects customers with independent contractors via a smarthphone app. At the time of writing, Uber was valued at $40 billion.
